Rustic Hawthorn Vase
« on: July 06, 2012, 09:31:05 PM »
I have been away from the forum for a long time and it's good to be back and seeing some of the work being done and hopefully getting some feedback on mine.
This is a hawthorn vase, 11" tall finished with micro-crystalline wax. As with a lot of my work I have left some of the original natural wood and bark in place. Comments critique etc welcomed.

There is some beautiful grain and colours inside that piece of hawthorn. And I've always liked the effect created by leaving a piece part natural.

Is it fully hollowed?

Thank yo, yes it is though I tend to leave this sort of thing a little thicker than normal, approx. 1/4" as it usually moves however dry it registers as and too thin it can become totally distorted.
