Finally got around to having a go!
« on: July 08, 2012, 10:18:41 AM »
Hi

I've finally got around to trying out some colouring.  The first is an ash platter using spirit stains and the second using JoJonja colours.

Neither are perfect but I'm pleased with the result for a first attempt.  I wasn't sure about the platter when I'd finished it but it's grown on me

Comments good or bad welcome

Cheers Atco

Cheers Martin.

Hi Dave,Very nice couple of Bowls/Platter I like the one done with the spirit stains it takes nothing away from the grain in the wood the one with the JoSonjas iridescent paints it is a shame the colouring is burnt out on the photograph.Well done.Regards John

I think I'm going the same way. The stained platter is fantastic, lots of courage to go with yellow and green and I think it works very well.

Also the same thought about the iridescent platter, it looses itself against the background and the light washout.  Could you try again against a neutral background at a slight angle so the camera flash is negated.

But thanks for posting (I'm going to have to try again methinks).

Hi Dave, When you've got the figuring in the grain it would be a crime to paint over it. With the staining you have brought out the best emphasising all that natural beauty and more.
The Jo Sonjas's one is hard to comment on due to the glare, but it would have to go some to beat the stained job.

Dave your subtle use of colour here is very well done and adds much to the pieces.

Thanks for the comments

I took the pics outside and for a change we had some sunshine and I used my phone camera.

I'll try harder next time!

Cheers Dave

Thanks Mark

I was inspired to have a go at this having looked at Andy's You Tube video.  I've been promising myself I would have a go at colouring and I;m now worrying that it will become addictive ;D

One of the best things about the forum is the gallery - I'm often inspired by what a see to "have a go" - sometimes it ends up in the fire pile but then that's what learning is all about.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, I agree the stained 1 is great, especially the way the tint enhances the grain pattern, the problem I have found with taking pics of the iridescent is getting the lighting right, and yes colouring is addictive, maybe we need a self help group ;D
