What are these for?

I recently bought a wood lathe and it came with several of these (photos attached)

They look a bit like small faceplates but the screw holes are countersunk on the wrong side and the bores are not threaded and come in different sizes.

I must admit I’ve not seen anything like these before, I too wonder what they’re for.

I had something very similar screwed into the deck of a yacht to support handrail stantions ( are they made of stainless! I wonder?)  my guess is that they have been mistaken for faceplates but are actually nothing to do with woodywork.

Some face plates did have counter sunk holes on the blank side to allow for any swelling in the wood from the screws used to fix the face plate.
Not sure if those are face plates all the same.

No, not stainless. Yes, could just have been mistaken for face plates I guess
