Perhaps I've missed a trick here but just in case I haven't....
Isn't a miniature bird simply two pointy egg shapes (one bigger than tuther) glued atop a short stick? ???

Astute as ever Brian, but I have to think of the saleability side of things. It would be cheaper(no pun intended) to buy ready made and just stick them on, also I don't think my fingers are nimble enough to sort them out. It's the same thing with ladybirds, to be honest I can't be a***d to make them so I buy them in to stick on mushrooms.
