Burr bowl
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:40:32 PM »
I was given some large scorched burr blanks a few years ago & though I can`t remember what timber it is, I do remember being told they came from Australia & had been burned due to forrest fires.

The first photo shows an off cut with black outer & how the scorching spread into the timber.

The wood was bone dry & the bits coming off as I turned were rather uncomfortable  :-\

Thanks for the comments & the wood ID.

The bowl is 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" high & is made from the smallest blank I have, the other 2 blanks being around 18- 24" x 5" thick, not that I`m in a hurry to turn those just yet, well not till I get some fore arm protection  ;D

Cheers.

Surprising what you can recover from a firewood pile!

I agree with all of the above, wonderful, well done.
