I blame Pete Moncrief-Jury
« on: May 04, 2014, 11:31:29 AM »
It's all his wabi-sabi-fault!

I suddenly noticed, whilst having a (long overdue) tidy-up in the workshop, that the wood stock shelves above my lathe, which were once cram packed with amazing exotics, are now full of crusty, cruddy old lumps of home grown timber that most people would throw on the fire.

Thanks, Pete!  ;)
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

or to put it another way, inspirational, thought provoking pieces of naturally enhanced material to make wonderful, exotic, original OOAK pieces from.

You're welcome.

That will be far more beautiful and ecologically friendly.

I like to be able to tell my customers where the piece of wood they are admiring came from, district, town or sometimes even down to the garden. They seem to like that.

Telling someone that the black oak came from a skip and was soaking in rusty water for a long time somehow doesn't seem to have a romantic feel to it. Or that it is a piece rejected by the local furniture factory because it had faulty graining. Sometimes it's best to say nuffin LOL
