A couple of lidded boxes designed to highlight the beauty of the bark on some specimens of trees .. these 2 being Betula papyrifera  ( birch ) and Prunus serrula  ( cherry )

Love the idea, how are you stabilizing the bark so it doesn't peel?

Bark peeling was not a problem , a few coats of oil seems to have done the trick .I have had  these for a while now , and one  is full of pound coins , however preventing splitting was not easy I roughed out several but these are the only ones I kept . The Cherry has a fantastic metallic smoothness and sheen to it , I have made similar using other unusual woods in the past , I like them as there is very little sanding to be done for a change !

Oh, I haven't seen pots like that before. I really like that.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I take my hat off to you, getting a finish like that and keeping the bark that intact must have been quite a struggle, but well worth it, in my estimation.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Boxed clever there Terry, Birch is the hardest one to get the likes of boxes out, the wood by us is mainly Birch, when you find timber on the ground all you have is the bark, rest is chocolate sponge, then as the name paper.

The cherry long time since I'd had any in a branch. As for the pieces I prefer the Cherry for form.

Cheers for sharing.  David

Twig,

an unusual couple of pieces, I presume the turning is hollowing out the insides.

Any idea what cherry that is, I'm not sure I recognise it by the Bark.
