Vasi
« on: January 12, 2015, 04:04:38 PM »
Hello everybody, recently I started to do vases. Here are two examples.
The first is a pysographycalle decorated vase made from black cherry, 7 inch high, the second from spalted hard maple with holes from  long horn beetle.
Oil and carnauba wax.
Thanks for watching and C and C are welcomed.
Regards

Sevilla,

You have the ability to turn such simple pyrographic effects into such stunning artwork on your turned work, almost like the minimilist Japanese folower arranging art.

I had to look carefully at the second picture to see the Longhorned beetle hole though, always nice to see timber with a 'History' being turned and not consigned to the firewood pile.

Hi Sevilla....I've come back to this thread a few times, trying to see if anything changes my mind, but nope! I really like the first vase for its shape and for the pyrography, which seems to be representing Japanese flowering cherry (perfectly apt for a cherry vase). However, I'm not so keen on the second piece - for me, the neck is too high.

Hi Sevilla, These are 2 beautifully turned pieces, perfect in design, detail and finish. Sure is one large beetle hole, nice to see you'd kept it, makes the piece.

 Well done and cheers  David

I like the first one very much but have to agree about the neck of the second. A touch to high for me,

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
