Mulberry Bowl 2
« on: May 24, 2015, 06:58:04 PM »
This Bowl is turned from some Mulberry that I acquired a few months ago and roughed out.
It is now semi dry so I have finished it with finishing oil and bagged it to let it dry slowly.
Approx 7" x 3"

Like the different shading in this one George..... the style suits it very well...... Looking at
the growth rings must have been a  big tree.

I have been experimenting with partly turning wet wood and then finish turning it when its dry, I seal the endgrain with PVA as shown by Glenn Lucas in his video's. As I cut my own firewood its a free source of wood. I also have Alaskan Mill so I alway's have a load of wood air drying as well. What method do yo use?

Nice looking bowl George.

I'm also interested in your drying process as it's one I've not tried. You part turn put to one side to dry then when it's had a bit of time to day out a bit further you finish it and pop it in a bag to finish drying. What type of bag do you use? and is it still in it's finish state once you take it out of the bag or do you need to rework a little.

Hi Ed

I either rough turn into bowls and then just leave them in a pile and 90% don't split or I cut them into rounds seal they end grain and stick them .
I occasionally put some in carrier bags after roughing out stuff that splits easily like apple.
