Blue Glaze Bowl
« on: November 15, 2015, 03:28:57 PM »
     Approximate Dimensions H 5.5cm x D 25cm

     Materials; Kentish Maple, Milk Paints

Continuing in the long tradition of Trombe L'oeil I made this to look like a ceramic, blue glazed bowl. I

have left the underside of the foot as plain wood to provide amusement when it is picked up. The

technique involves building up and cutting back multiple layers of  traditional milk paint, to achieve the

subtle effect of making it look like it was thrown on a potter's wheel.

C&Cs always welcome.
regards J

Jason,

I have many photos of ceramics I use as inspiration when colouring my work.

You've got this one right, it is an excellent representation of a ceramic bowl. I truly admire this bowl.

I'd say that you're spot-on with this one, Jason....it convinced methat it was ceramics, until you popped that bubble by showing the grain!

Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

This really looks like  a ceramic bowl , with colours that I quite like  ( in ceramics )  ... strangely I have seen a few ceramic bowls and vases made to appear like wood !!!  .. funny old world is n't it ?
