Yesterdays stock building.
« on: March 18, 2016, 10:42:18 AM »
In my continued effort to rebuild my stock ready for shows this little lot got made and / or finished yesterday.
First two started as a single piece but decided that it would rather be two pieces, fortunately before it went on the lathe. i could see a split where the bark went right through so broke it gently into the two pieces. 1st one is 465mm long and 260mm max width, 2nd one is 290mm long and 180mm max width. The hollow form is on a piece of slate with a naturally formed stone of obscure origin, very soft stone. This may change. It is another piece of the punky laburnum and is 80mm tall and diameter. The finial is hazel, may get changed as well.
C+C welcome as always.

Pete

I like the Hollow form but I don't think the finial looks right might be better black.

Thanks guys. The finial is a piece of hazel and the idea was to try and match the stone, hadn't thought of having a black one, worth a go and see what it looks like. Thanks George.

I agree with the other guys, the third one is my favourite Pete. The hollow form is a very nice shape, I do agree with George though the finial would(to me) look better either in black or a darker wood.
Nice work.

The two burr bowls float my boat and it's the first that wins, but that little white stone in number 3, are you sure it's not polar bear poo?

Pete, I definitely prefer the smaller (middle pic) of the two burr platters.

I'm totally with the others concerning the colour of the finial, if for no other reason than wood darkens, so even if it matches the stone (Polar bear poo) now, it won't in a couple of years.

LOL. Could it sell as fossilised Polar Bear Poo? Probably. I'll be doing a dark finial after all the comments and seeing what that looks like. Most thigns like this that I do i try and make sure I can adapt, adjust etc so not a problem.

Thanks for all the comments etc. Appreciated.

Nice work Pete I also like the hollow form best. Also agree on perhaps a dark finial would look better.
