Hello Mike,
my club tried for a lottery grant but we also got turned down, we believed it was because it was at the time of the Olympics. One thing we did do though was get in touch with our local town council who had someone who could go through the application with us and show up one or two ponts that we managed to strengthen. It took me weeks to fill the damn forms in and as I said at the end we got turned down but what it did do for us was show us other avenues that we coild explore (which we did 0 and eventually we got the grant amount that we wanted ,just from a different source.
Hope this helps.

Hi Mike, as a Chairman of our Bowling club I know how difficult it is to get grants, getting lottery grants are difficult but the following website has a lot of helpful info
http://www.awardsforall.org.uk/england/index.html

It may well be helpful to try getting a grant from other sources here are a few that I know other clubs (not woodturning) have had sucess with.
http://www.sitatrust.org.uk/
http://www.biffa-award.org/

I hope it helps and good luck with getting funds.

A sore point with me as well, I applied in 2011 and was turned down as we were an 'Arts' group and advised to apply to the arts council. I followed the 'awards for all' web site in detail.

And yet I see regularly in the various wood working magazines that a woodturning club some where has had a successful grant, may be a lottery in more senses than one!

hi folks
this is quite interesting my experience and ear to the ground is very different , this may be due to benefits to scottish region.
my own club at broxburn was awarded 10k just over a year ago within 6 weeks of application.
dumfries and galloway club received an award something similar 3-4 years ago.
perthshire woodcraft club received 6-7k last year.
i believe taywood woodturners benefitted from an award last year.
these were mostly from the small lottery grant scheme which has a ceiling of 10k and is awarded at 3 monthly intervals.
good people to find out about grants in your area are the mens shed organisation they seem to know who has funds available.
hope this helps , don't give up guys keep asking.
