It's for you!
« on: June 05, 2016, 02:25:36 PM »
These are stage props for a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the McMillan theatre, Bridgwater college. It all started with my son Lewis asking one of those "innocent" questions - could I turn the parts for an old style candlestick telephone. Of course I said yes. Then came the follow up - "we need fifteen by next week!" but by then it was too late, I was trapped! ;-)

They are all turned from pine (whatever odd bits of construction timber I had kicking around) and they will all be painted black and cords etc. added but I'm leaving that bit in the capable hands of the students doing the production. The finish is a bit rough (major understatement!) but as they are to be painted and they are just a stage prop and won't be subject to close scrutiny, I think I can get away with that!

By the way, the show is on from the 8th - 10th of June and tickets are available at the link above!

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I love these.

Wonder how hard it would be to strip the workings out of a telephone handset and fit them to one of these. Would look great on my desk at work.
