Oak burr

Every year I do a Folk festival at Hatfield House. The place is full of oak trees like this one with burrs that beggar belief. This is just one of them.
Turners don't make mistakes, they have design opportunities

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

that looks like the trees you get in windsor great park if you know where to look. they are knocking on the door of a thousand years old.

it looks as though it's a mixture of proper burrs and collapsed growth as the tree has got older. gives for some stunning swirly gran when quartersawn.
