Some time ago, my wife and I paid a visit to an old friend who runs a B&B on a farm on the south coast. Her son, as a part time business, clears woodlands and sometimes cuts timber for local furniture makers. They had just cut up some oak, and left all the cutoffs with the burrs and bumps on a big pile, which was meant to go into fire wood. I got permission to fill my boots, so only had to convince SWMBO to make space in the boot.
These pieces have yielded all sorts of bits, and here's one of them turned into a natural edge bowl. Maximum diameter is about 18", wing thickness is about 1/4", height about 4". Finished with 2 coats of Drechsleroel (translates as Turner's Oil), similar to Danish Oil, but without the terrible smell.
As you can see, I couldn't quite hold on to all bits, one knot decided to crumble away and leave a nice hole behind. Character building, that is.
All C&C welcome, as usual.
