Coloured Sycamore Bowl
« on: December 12, 2016, 06:29:38 PM »
A ripple figured sycamore bowl, textured on the outside with acrylic gesso and airbrush acrylics. After the blue and green colours were applied, the surface was cut back with fine abrasive to expose the high points of the gesso texture. A light overspray of transparent yellow was applied to tone down the white highlights slightly. Width 13cm / 5"

Hi Paul, liking that effect very much, simple but effective, good shape too.

Paul,

you cannot see it in the picture, but from your description I imagine that the bowl has a very fine but tactile texture to it.

Do you finish it in any particular way to protect the slightly chalky gesso or the paint?

Thanks for the kind comments.

In answer to Bryan's question, the colour is sealed with a few coats of satin acrylic lacquer.
