Metal Powders

What epoxy resin do you find easiest to use when mixing with metal powders.

I have used Araldite in the past but it is so hard to sand back, any suggestions received with thanks.

Martin.

I don't I use thin CA glue. I find that with epoxy it always comes up looking matt whereas with the CA glue the result looks like pure metal. It works with metal, glass and gemstone powders. If the split or hole is deep fill the bottom part with CA glue and sawdust then top off with the metal powder. If the split goes right through I put masking tape on one side first then fill.

Martin,

I'm with Pete. Thin CA all the way. I tried epoxy and apart from the difficulties you described, I found it also dulled the metallic shine.

However Gwintog used it in his recent posting 'Kintsugi - Quercus cubric', so I'd listen to what he suggests as well.

I`m with the others, never looks right with Epoxy, always a bit wishy-washy no matter how much powder you add to the resin, have been using the Superglue method for over ten years now and no failures with it so far.

Some time ago I bought some bronze powder which was meant to be added to polymer clay. That worked really well with clear epoxy.

Hi Martin

I use Zap two part epoxy with metal powders for large cracks or if I've carved wood out to fill with metal inlay, that works well. It's best left for 24 hours before working on it.

I use CA for smaller splits.
