Tee Light Holder - with a 'nod' to Pete
« on: June 04, 2017, 08:18:15 PM »
I gave Pete (bodrighywood) a piece of timber I'd had around for a while and could not see what to make from it. He workked his magic.

So when something similar came along again, I just had to have a go. So with a nod to Pete and my thanks for his inspiration, here is my version of his Goblet tee-Light Holder.

The hole was a rotten knot, the timber was so poor I could push my thumb into it.

The goblet is made of Plum, the foot is ebonised sycamore, standing 175mm tall and 120mm wide (7" x 4 3/4").

C&C as you will, thanks for looking.

Nice one Bryan, have you had it going yet? I left mie lit for a few hours after making it to make sure that the wood was safe and didn't put any finish on the inside as most finishes are flammable.

Pete,

Yes. I put a tee light in the glass holder and burnt it till it ran out. I checked the inner rim regularly and it never got hot at all. So I'm happy it is safe.

And like you, I've left the inside clear of finish.

Very nice Bryan

I love seeing wood beyond it's sell-by-date being used like this, just adds something  :)

All the best

Nice one Bryan, but who'd have thought it....the spindle-king becomes a convert to the practice of using up crappy timber.

I was looking for something else and refound this thread which reminded me. Last show I did I had your laburnum up for sale Bryan and a woman with a very educated accent came up and totally fell in love with it and then went off. Her husband came back an hour later and didn't ask the price just bought it for his wife . Totally unexpected as they weren't the sort of people I would have thought would like it. Never can tell. Here is the originaL.

Thank you all.

Pete, I've had a few nibbles and some great comments about it, but no buyer yet.

I live in hope.
