I did not want to hijack George's or Fuzzy's threads on their cake stands so I have put this here.
Cake stands are a bit like buses, you don't see one for ages and then three come along at the same time! We will be having a wedding in the family next year and I am already being given lists of things that I have to make for this event, one is a cake stand (or several to be exact). Now I like George's one here and I also like Fuzzy's. But the one I really like was in proper job (a local shop) made in glass and metal and only costs £4.50!! (they will only have to last for one event). But they look very nice.
Now as the H&S rep I think it is my duty to point out the dangers to other woodturners of telling SWMBO that you have seen cake stands at a very reasonable price (for what they are)and it would be far easier to buy them in. So I will now spend the next few months collecting suitable material to make wooden cake stands which I will be very pleased to make and which it turns out, is the less dangerous option!!
