Hi all any help much appreciated. Rubbing down an old desk but not a clue what wood it is. Any of you sage and knowledgable gentlemen/ladies out there able to give me clue as to what species it may be?

looks like a piece of genuine mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) but i'd need a close up of the endgrain to be sure.
