Table lamp
« on: January 09, 2013, 09:41:34 PM »
I was asked to make a contemporary table lamp as a Christmas present. At the Harrogate show I purchased a square block of hardwoods which were glued together. The hardwoods include European Oak - American white Oak - Maple - Cherry - Ash - Walnut.
The dimensions are 9.5 ins high (11.5ins with lampholder) x 6ins dia.
The top and bottom were capped with walnut to hide the cable entries and as a bit of decoration

I really like this - don't know that I'd turn it but would be happy to see it in the home.  Big, bold and commanding a space. Certainly a discussion item.

Though it will need the right shade, or it will look all out of kilter.

Good tool work and a good finish, thanks for posting.

Thanks for the comments Bryan. I agree I also wouldn't normally turn something like this but it was a request from a family member so I had to respond. What I thought was different were all the different woods glued together. Also the younger generation prefer the "modern" look so I kept it simple.
