This piece has an "undercut" rim although it is hard to see in the photo. It has had 4 coats of satin lacquer and burnished.

Terry,   You've precented this piece well, it's detail and form are chrisp and excellent, lovely piece, has it the foot by design, as it looks a bit square, a small detail would give it being apart of the piece and not how it had been mounted, just me.

Cheers  David

Terry, a pale Olive Ash or maybe just the intersection of the heartwood and cambium wood. But a beautifly tight grain.

I'm with David, the foot is a little square, possibly a taper downwards or a reverse curve (small ogee) from the bottom of the bowl.

Also it's possibly a bit small if this is to be a fruit bowl, a big bunch of bananas on one side could tip it.

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Point taken about the foot gents. It is 3in in diameter which is slightly less than the 1/3 rule as the main diameter of the bowl is 10.5in.
