Old oak vessel

I thought I'd show you this as I haven't put anything up for a while.

It's from a 200 year old oak beam. Hard as nails, I thought. And then I spotted it...see first pic.

Second pic is with blackwood collar and lid. Third is part way through the other stage. When it's complete I'll add another pic.

And it was hollowed with home-made Texan toothpick style tools.


Hope you like it but it's fine if you don't

I like what you've done with this. Surprised the wood is as good as it looks though, all the old oak I have got my hands on tends to have a lot more markings in it. Look forward to seeing the end result.

Andy, that was a nasty looking bit of oak, the first pic shows just how hard it must be.

But the pyro and liming certainly works together.

If I could make any change it would be the finials central capstan, I think it needs to be slimmer but not in it's middle, a little to one end or the other and I'd go for the top.

Andy, some one looks to have nail this one already, literally, it's when you hit large barb wire staples it hurts ...   :'(  ..

This has all the makings of a very nice piece, look forward to the completion.
