Fountain MK2
« on: March 31, 2013, 08:20:07 PM »
I`ve been making this piece since before xmas,as theres been a few hold ups due to inner flexydrive cable busting and the weather, its made up of 9 segments, the woods used are,Mulberry,False Acacia,Brown Oak,Elm,Ash,Cherry and Burr Oak.the base is Brown Oak 6 3/4" across, first layer is Ash 13" across,2nd layer 8" across,1st funnel is 3 1/2" across, top funnel is 2 5/8" across, and the finial/umbrella is 2 3/8" across.the overall height is 12 1/2".each layer was turned and then pierced, the 2 bottom layers were thinned to a design before being pierced and then painted, the top 3 bits just turned thin then pierced the cherry was dyed with light blue, looked horrible so went over it with purple, looks ok now,oh,this was pierced with the Proxon mill/drill bits and the Dura Frit burrs/cutters I did  a review on,now for the pics, regards,  Eric.
psthe base went bang,so had to infill fill brass powder and super glue.

Hi Eric,
I have looked at this one several times and congratulate you on the skill in making it and the time spent.
I am in favour of intricate work and admire those who undertake it but for me there is too much going on and the colour distracts the fine lace working etc - sorry but thats my thoughts.
Regards
Ken

Hi Eric. That's amazing. I do alot of segmented work and that requires alot of patience. I don't think I have the patience to do all that piercing though. Well done lovely job. Malcolm.

An excellent example of piercing and I also like the colouring.I thought I had a lot of patience but nothing compared to what it must take to create this little masterpiece.
Very well done, looking forward to seeing the next one!

thanks Malcy,I never thought about the time taken, just kept busy at it when I was able to,I`ve always shyed away from segmented work thinking I wouldn`t have the patience for it.

thanks Rod,looking forward to getting going on the next one,

Eric.
