Aussie themed platter
« on: June 16, 2013, 02:27:58 PM »
Have not posted for a while. This is one of a pair of platters I've just made as a house warming present for my son in Australia. They are 14"dia and made from sychamore. The rims are relief carved with gum nuts and gum leaves, the background textured and coated with dark and light bronze metallics and the nuts and leaves coloured with acrylics. I pyrographed a horse in centre of eachone as my son breeds horses. Comments and critiques welcome.

Hi Gwilym, I love this platter I am sure your Son will be over the moon with it the turning is superb so is the carving but what does it for me is the
wonderful Pyrography. Now let someone tell me Woodturning is not Art your Son will be very proud of his Dad.

Gwilym,

can I only see one platter or am I unable to see the difference between the two of them?

Carving, painting, pyro work, you're a man of many talents. I am seriously impressed with your work.

I hope they make it out to Aus safely, it's a long way.

Gwilym,

As always with your work, a stunning piece in every form, the Horse could jump straight off, excellent details and correct in movement.

Should be one proud Son as well.  Thank you for sharing.

Cheers   David

Hi Gwilym

When I saw this platter in the club last Wednesday, it looked great without the horse. I can't believe this is your first attempt at pyrographing a horse and how brilliantly it's turned out. Your talent and those new tips have worked wonders. Look forward to seeing the pair in the flesh before they leave for Australia.

See you Wednesday,
Rod

Hi everyone thanks for the comments.Dr4gonflythat is only one of the platters, I've just finished the second and will post a photo.I must admit I had reservations about pyrographing the horses as I was afraid of buggering up the platters but I am pleased with how they turned out.
