And it was without form, and void; yet it's one stunning piece of horsechestnut Burr, there is so much figure and form just within it and the finish works well.

Depends on what you come up with as a finial, every possibility, yet with it's basic form, maybe not a finial.

Just me though.

It reminds me of a lump of elm that I started to turn for a table lamp....it was so darned beautiful that I left it as a simple cylinder. Sometimes the grain says it all and the shape is secondary. I'd say that if it's going to have a finial, it would need to be fairly minimal so as not to detract from the beauty of the grain.

Beautiful wood grain in this, and you've kept the form simple so as to show that off fully. Like the pewter lid but not sure about the finial. Malcolm.

Thank You for all your positive feedback.
I was trying to get the most I could out of the Burr I had,
without going too fancy and detracting from the Burr itself.

SO ITS NO FINIAL THEN. :)   :)

Tony,

such a beautiful piece of timber and you've popped the grain so well, the chatoyance is amazing.

I like the collar ring, not sure about the pewter finial, but how about one in Blackwood or something really differently dramatic.

    Thanks Bryan
I have found the lighter you go with the wash the better the chatoyancy comes through.
you don't want to colour the piece just pop it.
Its definitely a thought go completely different with the finial.

Definitely go with a finial but make it a "sharp" shape in total contrast to the smooth shape of the form itself.
