Simple Bowl
« on: March 01, 2014, 10:06:18 PM »
I think that I needed to keep this form simple as the grain says it all. Turned from Spalted Beech and is 10" diameter and I have gone back to my first finishes I started using when I began turning and that is sealer, burnished and then canuba wax.

I could not make my mind up about the chucking point so left it in as the base is quite wide I think in this case it breaks the foot up.

This is for someone who donated some nice pieces of wood to my slowly growing store.

C & C welcome

Just hope I have posted this right

Derek,

It's always nice to see a nice piece of spalted beech.

I think you've hit this one just right, you've not overworked it and left enough of a rim to show the figuring to a very good effect even if the bowl was to be used to hold something.

Nice work.

Nice one, I like this bowl, I have some spalted beech which I will use to match your design.

Nice one, Derek....a superb piece of beech.....if I might add something, though, when your work gets as good as this you really ought to sign it and it also helps people if you identify the timber as well.

Hi Derek    The wood definitely speaks for itself. The simplicity of the bowl
       shows it off very well.

Hi Derek

Simplicity itself, you've let the wood to the talking. Nicely turned and well finished.

Thank you all for the comments.

Sometimes we can quite easily forget the wood and add to much to a turning that it distracts from what is already there, I have done it in the past and it ended up in the bin.

Derek you do not need to do anything else on this .Gorgeous, well done.
The skill of the turner is also in knowing when to stop turning. ;)
