Sugar maple bowl

This is a bowl made from a log of hard maple that was left on the ground for a year. Not a durable wood, I guess.

Hi there Sevilla...A very pleasing shape and I like the little out-turn at the lip of the bowl. Is the colour natural? From what I've seen recently of sugar maple, this piece looks a little yellower than usual.

One small point....as with a previous post, your images open up into a rather large size which makes it difficult to view the whole item without having to scroll around it. I'm guessing that you might need to reduce the image size to overcome this.

Thanks for posting...Les

Thanks, the wood has been treated only with walnut oil on the inside and linseed oil and a coat of amber shellac followed by carnauba wax on the outside.  Yes, I must reduce the size of the photos. Did not realize were so gigantic!!

If it is the amers shellac giving it that wonderful warm yellow colour maybe I'd better give it a go, it's a beautiful colour.

And I like the insect attack marks, it shows the wood has has another life, now if only we could get non woodturners to understand that!
