Spalted Beech Bowl
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:33:49 AM »
Hi Again
A Spalted Beech bowl 8" x 3"
Similar design to the Figured Beech bowl but deeper, hope this photo shows the undercut and rim detail a little better .  Both bowls are around 10mm even wall thickness.

Indeed it does, Rod, much easier to understand the shape. The 'Figured' bowl looked nice, but this one's even better. I particularly like the little colar at the opening of the rim. Nice bit of wood, too.

A cracking piece of wood Roderick.    The definition cut round its rim suits it very well.  With a
nice finish for heavily spalted beech.  A very nice piece

I really like this bowl. Great job!  I love spalted wood but I just don't have enough of it.

That shape looks really good.
Spalted wood can go either way. A well marked piece like this can really enhance the item but the wrong pattern of spalting can just as easily ruin it.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
