Lidded boxes: acorns
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:56:25 AM »
Here are a few acorns. They are all lidded boxes. The three in the bowl and the one opened have their body made from lilac wood. CC welcome.

Sevilla,

these are clever, the 'cup' section being so much bigger and more realistic than many I've seen (or turned as Light Pulls) make them work well.

What sort of size are they please, there is nothing to give any scale.

The three with the purpleheart wood stem are about two inches in diameter by two and half high without the stem. The two with the apple cup are a little bigger, three by three and one half high.

Sevilla,

You've created some really nice boxes here, done a great job of them, good size and nicely turned bowl as well.

Hi Sevilla....what a great set of boxes; they certainly score on novelty value! I'm sure that I've seen acorns before, but I've never made any myself and don't think I've seen them quite like this. The exaggerated shapes make them appealing and bring to mind an animated film (was it Ice Age?) in which I recall some primitive squirrel lobbing them around. Bet they'll sell at craft fairs!

Fun little things, I think they would do well at the fairs as well.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
