This vase is 9 1/2"high x 5 1/2"dia and turned from Laburnum with a carved band of daffodil's. Critiques and comments welcomed.

Now this is a very very nice piece, love the carving and it's well balanced with the vase

That is a quality bit of work. The perfect marriage of two totally different skills.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

daff-initely brilliant, Gwilym, executed to your usually high standards. I did at first think the Laburnum was a little dark and overpowering, distracting from the finer carved detail, yet coming back it grows on one and not out of place.

Thanks every for your comments. I agree with you David, the laburnum is too dark to show the daffodils to advantage.

The first thing that struck me was the balance you've achieved from the log you started with. The grain pattern around the wide section of the lower part shows just how even you've got the balance, not an easy thing to do.

The shape is excellent, the curves flow from top to bottom, through the carving and keep the eye moving without a step.

I'd like a close up of the carving detail, what I can see looks well done but I've come to expect that of your work, always impressed with your postings.
