Grahams rough n ready spindle steady
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:14:43 PM »
Based on several examples found on youtube.
Its not much to look at but works a treat.
Made from 3 layers of ply, some offcuts of beech and other odds n sods I had laying around.
The wheels are off some old Axi casters which I assumed had bearings..... they don't so I expect I will have to change them before long.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I've made one the same as this except that the wheels are skate board wheels with bearings. It works extremely well, even on a long segmented vase. All it cost was about £12 for the wheels from ebay and some ply I had lying around. Malcolm.

Can't fault that at all, Graham, nothing like the pride in making your own jig.

Cheers for sharing it with us.  David

Doesn't look rough and ready to me, at all. I'd be happy to borrow that any time you're not using it... ;D
