Hi guys are any of you members of other forums and how do you find them compared to this one.

Not kissing ass but this has been my favourite I have found so far.

Hi Ryan, You raise an interesting question .. we'll see how it runs.

I'll kickoff ... I'm on WoW .. World of Woodturning, American site very interesting for the varied and diverse turning represented there, as expected by size very active.

Also visit Woodworkers Institute and UK Workshop, then like on here can be slow, then with anything there's the need to use them ....

Cheers   David

I am on WOW, which is not really a form in the way this is, and UK Workshop, which you already know about. On the whole I think forums are slowing down nowadays and Facebook pages seem to be taking over, at least the various turning groups on Facebook seem quite busy though they are mostly showcases.
I am thinking of starting a Facebook group for Jet 3520 users but as a forum I prefer this one
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I visit the woodworkers institute site and am a member of the AAW chapter of www.segmentedwoodturners.org which specialises in segmented Woodturning obviously. That site is superb if you are into that. Malcolm.

The only other forum that I use, is Woodturners Unlimited, which is based in the USA, but has an international membership. i find it very helpful to get a differnt perspective on my work and they have some good features, such as the 'Woodturning of the Week', and an appraisal/critique service.

Thanks all who have answered and keep them coming guys and gals.

I tried to get onto Wow but I don't think it is accepting new registrations.

UK workshop I joined last year sometime and find it a bit hit and miss at times.
As with all sites you get helpful people and unhelpful people sadly I have a low tolerance for unhelpful people. :(

No need to pm invite on its way.

I also use the AAW Forum and that of our twin club, Central Oklahoma Woodturners.

Generally forum activity seems slow but Facebook is very active.

The woodturning group on LinkedIn has its moments - quiet now but will pick up after Xmas when the demonstrators for Pittsburgh are announced.

i use a forum called arbtalk which is a fascinating world of tree surgery, their methods and ways, fungi and tree identification, craftsmanship aplenty from chainsaw carving joinery cabinetry and of course woodturning.

made loads of contact for timber...

Come on now Les,

Don't sell yourself short I was very inspired by your Franken-Vase. You have loads of really nice pieces.

Thanks for that one Devil,

You might have a few less contacts now you've let the cat out of the bag though.  :P

My only other (wood) forum is the Australian Wood work Forums, which is a bit of a misnomer as it seems to cover just about any hobby you can think of.

I've migrated from forums to social media like Facebook & twitter but have moved on to Instagram.

The problem I found with twitter & Facebook is folks would "like" or retweet loads of stuff I really wasn't interested in. All I really want to see is work that people have produced, Facebook groups are good for this & Ive "liked" & so follow several wood turning groups.

Forums after a while became uninteresting as like magazines the same subject matter is covered time & time again, you can tell the topics that are going to cause trouble & in the end I tired of reading them. Of the few forums I visit I usually go there to look at the projects section or to see what friends are posting about.
