Spalted Horse Chestnut Lidded Pot
« on: December 05, 2014, 07:35:30 AM »
Something else that I've just finished and wanted to share Spalted Horse Chestnut Lidded Pot turned to around 3mm needed a lot of CA and finished with CA 200mm x 120mm weights 140g without lid and 156 with lid.

I hope you like it

Ed :)

Ed,
This is up to your usual standard of turning and excellent finishing, you have made using CA as a finish you own, and mastered it well.

Having said that, the shape is a little off, looking at the widest part of the vessel the lines above and below are a little straight and the joint curve a little sharp.

It’s not wrong, I know I've seen many such shapes in ceramics but a smoother overall line would have brought this to a whole new level.

That's a very nice piece of Spalted Horse Chestnut  Ed..... and its certainly a nice finish.
Like Bryan not sure about the shape, although as always shape and form are down to personal choice.

I understand what your saying about the shape once done I was in two minds.

I loved it on the lathe but standing up I think there's something not quite right.

I judge a piece from the number of comments I get from around the places I post it and this is not high up there, yet the finish and wall thickness are both good. I think that I have got the shape a little wrong for most.  :(

Thanks for the feedback.

Ed

Have to agree regarding both quality and shape. I learned the hard way to leave pieces with a tenon of recess when I take them off the lathe as horizontal can look very different to vertical regarding shape etc.

Hi Ed, your own thoughts echo mine I'm afraid, nice finish though.
