Disposable Gloves.
« on: January 02, 2015, 01:03:36 PM »
Just been out for a few bits.

Aldi have boxes of 100 disposable gloves for £3.69.

No idea if latex or other vinyl type, but a good price.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Did not look that close, but the box normally says on it sm, med or lg.

I  bought a box of nitrile gloves from Eurocar Parts. I  insisted on trying them on before purchase and the assistant opened new boxes in different sizes so I  could  do so.

I  bought the largest size.

I've  tried latex gloves in the past and they were totally useless but the nitrile ones don't tear even when caught in something.

They were only around £5 for the box.

Sounds good MC, thank you.

It annoys me that every manufacturer of clothing have different ideas of what constitutes “Large” and so on.

I  really don't understand why they are NOT required by the EU to put a size in centimetres or inches on their garments. That would  be sensible.

I use gloves made by "body glove", I find them to be really good and don't cost the earth, the little grips built in the fingers and thumbs are good too.

it might help even if they 'd put a chart up telling you what sizes S,M,L, actually cover.

my hand are 4 1/2" palm (not including thumb) width and fingers (knuckle to tip) 4-5" long, thumb 3".

i cant use rubber or vinyl as i can never find any that fit so i buy big ol leather gauntlets as they are the only ones i can put on.

whats this nitrile stuff then?

any links?

Nitrile disposable gloves are usually "stronger " than latex ones I find and better for people with allergies etc.
(Most of the NHS blue gloves are nitrile)

I  believe that hand size measurements are the circumference of the hand across the palm below thumb and back over the knuckles.

If you, Graham, are anywhere near East Hertfordshire, pop in and I'll  give you a pair of mine to try (or send self addressed prepaid envelope and I'll  post a pair).

being totally unaware of how you measure your hand i just wrote down a few sizes i thought would be relative to glove sizes.

turns out i am completely wrong. using the link below it told me exactly how to measure your hand for length and width.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/skin/employ/glovesizes.htm

on both charts i am an XL or a size 10.

found a box of these so might try them for oiling purposes.

Gosh, this is such a friendly place. My thanks to both MC and Ryan Davenport for the offer of a free pair to try but Devils link looks really good so I have ordered a box of those.

I have bought some gloves from Clas Olsen. I think they are latex but I get size 10 from there and they work fine for me. They do different sizes, and I find size 10 fits me ok. Hope this helps. Malcolm.
