Burr Oak Bowl
« on: February 22, 2015, 02:08:07 PM »
This Burr Oak Bowl was turned this morning from a Blank Mark Sanger gave me a couple of days ago.
It is a bit wet so I have oiled it well and bagged it.
C & C always welcome on my work even if I forget to say so.
This Bowl is 10" wide 7" high on the highest side to 4" on the lowest side

One of those rare occasions when the wood really suits the chunky form....love it - and the colour is quite a bonus.

I still get a bit of a surprise when I see these sort of work from you George as I have got so used to seeing the coloured work. Lovely wood, well used, be interesting to see how it is in a while when it moves.

Thank you Tony I was not brave enough to try and turn it thinner.

I don't think it will move much Pete Mark made a bowl with some of it and his has not moved.
I still prefer doing my colored work Pete but I have tons of wood like this that needs using up.

I reckon you (Mark) should have mounted it as is and done a really lovely hollow form with it.

I think I would need a lathe slightly bigger than the one I have. Probably a V8 version like some of our cousins have over the pond.

I guessed it might, looks like it weighed a lot. Nice idea though LOL. Judging by the look of the wood in Georges bowl It will be interesting to see what is made from the rest of it.

George,

the bowl looks totally useless for anything, must be art?

Whatever it is or however you describe it, it looks great.

Mark,

your turn to show what you made from your bit!
