A rather sappy burr
« on: April 24, 2015, 06:07:28 PM »
A small Robinia burr, I kept chasing the top down to find some heartwood.  I got down to 2" and a flash of it appeared across the top.   I decided to leave it at that as I wanted to make a hollow form rather than a plate!

This one measures 9" x 2" oil and wax finish.  C & C gratefully received.

Regards David

David,

that is a lovely form, and not over-finished the satin effect sits on it well.

I like it.

Really nice classic form, even wall and perfect finish .. Beautiful at 9x2, shows what can be done.

It really is a lovely form and the complexity of the grain just adds to it. Love it.

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to post your positive comments. I am very pleased you like this form.

Been a bit of a mad day with friends and family but I did get to spend the afternoon/evening in the workshop.  I've managed to come out with something quite different which I can't wait to show you.  Afraid you'll have to wait a few weeks for it to dry and season, but I hope it will be worth the wait!

Many thanks again

David

A lovely shape and a gorgeous bit of burr.
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
