I just felt it, it was looong
« on: April 29, 2015, 06:56:52 PM »
Old hat for most of you.
I just turned my first bit of wet wood, a box log about 9 inches long and 3plus inches thick from a tree felled last December. Reducing the thickness for a tenon on the end produced a continuous streamer at least 10 feet long. It felt great watching it coming of the chisle.
I knew I loved turning.  :)
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

It's fun when you learn to direct the shaving - all over someone stood behind you watching...
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Ooops, It went straight into the chuck ready to shape but it will have to wait till tomorrow. I will find out then.

Aiming it sounds fun. :)

Ah, the old Boxwood streamer, memories of halcyon days gone past. 8) 8) 8)  It can be mesmerising turning this so beware that you don't turn it to nothing just for the pleasure!!! ;) ;)

Graham....welcome to the OWLS....the Order of the Wooden Long Streamer, and congratulations for passing the initiation test. Next you have to make a 1 meter long, end grain shaving off dry elm burr.  ;)
Les
