More hollow forms.
« on: May 23, 2015, 02:59:48 PM »
managed to do a few more between commissions. Earning a living really gets in the way of having fun LOL. These are all apple burr apart from the one laburnum. They are between 150 and 200mm high and most fall into the wabi sabi mould as they have natural splits, etc. They are finished with Microcrystalline but the shine doesn't show in the photos.

Hi Pete great to see some more of your fine work on here.  I know what you mean about work getting in the way of having fun on the lathe - but probably in a different context to you  :)

I love the top form for it shape and the bottom one for the beauty of its timber.  The contrast between the heartwood and sapwood of laburnum equals that of Yew and Walnut in my opinion.  The problem is I have yet to come across any of a decent enough size to turn!

Thanks for showing

Kind regards

David

Good selection there Pete...... Its the last one that stands out for us...... You have really have captured the
essence of the wood with this one. Very nicely done.

A grand set of pieces, Pete. For me, it's the second one that works best....why?....because it's my sort of piece of wood and it just looks so sensual. The laburnum is also interesting and the profile you've created does the best for the wood by highlighting its contrasts, but I'm sticking with number 2!

Thank you guys. I keep meaning to have a go at the different textures and colouring techniques but still prefer to let the wood do the talking. You never know if it works until you finish LOL.

Thank you Ed. That one has moved a bit and I need to re sand the base as it has curved a bit so not properly stable. The laburnum one has already sold this morning. Didn't last long LOL.

The second one with the big hole works for me, just pipping the tall vase with the very narrow base.
