What wood is this?

(1/3) > >>

Andy Coates:
A local woman dropped this part-turned bowl off whilst I was away on Saturday. Apparently her Father turned it many, many years ago and didn't complete it (perhaps there was something in the shape he didn't like?!!!)

As I rarely use exotics I'm not sure what it is...could it be cocobolo?

I've oiled it to highlight the colour and grain...

it's wood.... but not as we know it.

sorry for that joke lol. the subject was crying for it lol.

theblindwoodturner:
Hi andy, could you describe the colour to me please and if possible the feel.

if it feels very silky and has a sound tone to it, the likelyhood is it's cocobolo

lol

that's how I work.. I rely on feel and sound to tell certain woods, as well as the smell.
