Yes, yes and yes! Just the ticket. And an excellent demonstration how colour and wood can complement each other beautifully! Yes!!!!!

Question: Is that a wax finish or a lacquer?

Yes,
I really like both the shape and the color. Nice curve, nice color and nice finish. I'm more for  simple wax finish but in this case the finish is very appropriate.

I do not like the three steps on the top of this one for me it is spoiling the flow and ruins what could be a nice piece.

Ed,

the blending of the colours in the piece is great and I really must try your CA finish sometime, it gives a wonderful shine and I am sure (as pen users use it) a hardwareing finish.

But I'm not sure if you've over sanded the steps (gold bands). What I think were coves look like they have had their top intersection sanded a bit too much, losing some of their definition.

With this and the HMG forms, I like the direction you are pushing yourself.

Bryan

The bands have not worked out to well on this piece I was trying to get a crisp line with the gold leaf spent a bit of time playing around and could not get the finish I wanted.

There is a bit of over sanding well spotted, I just wanted to post it to get the feedback of the form and idea so posted it everywhere to see what people think, with that feedback I've already started on another and have worked out a way to get the bands how I want them and not over sand the edge effecting the colour

Hi Ed,
getting crisp edges on metal leaf can be quite difficult even though it is masked etc. I would be interested in how you do it on the next ones.
Nice form but like George not to sure about the steps.

Leave the form on the tenon and after doing the gold leaf you can cut the edges neatly with the tip of a skew. You need to be careful but it can be done. haven't got any photos of the ones I did unfortunately. Are you using gold leaf or gilt leaf by the way?

Hi Pete

It's a gold leaf flake that you mix with a wax and that was my plan, sand, gold leaf, finish with CA, the cut back to a sharp line, then colour. The water based dye will wipe on the finished gold leaf.

Fingers crossed the jobs a good'n  :)

You are a very adventurous turner Ed. I like the look of this one quite a lot.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I like the idea, the green dye works well, the gold leaf could also be tidied up with a fine point tool as used with the Henry Taylor decorating elf, getting a thinner cove than with the point of a skew, can`t wait ti see the next one,or the improved this one, cheers,

Eric.
