Annoying little clicks
« on: August 24, 2015, 06:03:54 PM »
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

I have been getting an annoying clicking noise from the lathe when running at low speeds ( sanding etc )
I have tracked it down at last to my evolution chucks ( I need to check but I think it is happening with both of them ) The 3 round sections that the square chuck key fits into has some movement and rattles  at slow speed.
I guess it is not a problem but are they all like that ?
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Graham,
My Versachuck and Axy chucks do that and alway have but it has never bothered me.  You could always put a wide elastic band round it if is really bugging you; can bring you one on Wednesday if you want.

Hi Dave.
Now I know what is causing it, and that they are all like it, its no biggie. Over the months I must have wasted hours checking the belt and everything around it looking for the cause.  :)

My supa nova does it as well. The 'keyholes' if you can call them that are a little loose, it is 7 years old so Iassumed it ewas just wear and tear. Doesn't affect it in any way that i can see.
