A simple question
« on: September 19, 2015, 01:54:46 AM »
Here is a set of nested bowls made from a solid dry slab of black walnut. 13 inch dia x 3 3/4 H. Nothing special about this utilitarian bowls but I have a question. To make the thing a little different I turned the two smaller bowls with a beaded rim and an undercut side one and with a faceted rim the other. Now I have mixed feelings about this and probably think that this does not add to the set but perhaps ruins it. What is you feeling about this?
Regards.

Sevilla although I can see that the work put into these is good quality I feel that the idea of a set is they should all be the same, here it looks like some bowls you had put together as a set.

I'd agree with John....if you're selling them separately, then fine, but to emphasize the point that they're a set from the same board, the detail should be the same on all 4.

Have to agree with John and Les. As said, each bowl individually is fine but if it is a set the only difference should be the size.

I would agree with the others, a set needs to share common traits.

I'd also have to agree with the other guys: In a set of bowls they should all be of the same shape and decoration, just smaller and bigger versions.

Thank you everybody. The more I look at the set the more I have mixed feelings. The fact is that wood is very expensive and I have more and do not want to waist it. Today  I was at a craft show and the set was set at $550. Nobody loked at it seriously even if the price wad hidden!
May be tomorror I'll raise the price to $700 and see what happens...

contrary to the others i actually like the different details to each bowl especially the 10 sided one in the middle.

black walnut can be expensive so i'd go for native myself.

Firstly to my mind you can see they are all from the same board just by looking at the grain pattern, and also,I like them just the way they are, variety is the spice of life as they say, cheers,

Eric.
