Wanted - A pithy description.
« on: November 15, 2015, 09:58:40 AM »
I purchased an AWGB badge when I joined but as I didn't belong to a club I sewed it on to a baseball cap. :)

On the basis that it is easier to sell to a customer that comes to you,  I am thinking of getting another badge to sew on the smock that I wear to the club I now belong to. New members will ask What's the badge ? so what I want is a short pithy description of what the AWGB is.

Over to you :)
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

From the home page....

'Holding charity status, the AWGB is a national body representing woodturners from Great Britain and further afield. We provide support and advice; run training courses for adults and we have a youth training initiative'.

Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

I add the fact that I am a member of the Association and my membership number to all my sales tags.

I feel it gives a little gravitas and I've even had one customer track me down through the Association for a repeat purchase because of it.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Perhaps more a body that represents anyone who turns or has a love or interest in turning? I know a few members who don't turn themselves but are deeply interested in it.

Some things look good written down but don't flow well when said out loud. I need a one sentence reply that can then be elaborated on if they stand still long enough  :). Same thing if manning a stand, what is your first sentence when someone says AWGB, whats that then ?

How about a simple one

It is an association for woodturners in great Britain, then if they look interested you can explain more seems to work for me at shows.

The AWGB is The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain. It supports the development of woodturning throughout the UK.
