'Heaven's Bells'...or... 'An afternoon at the foundry'
« on: December 13, 2015, 06:47:39 PM »
These were great fun to make and I suspect they'll sell like hot cakes on Monday. Small pieces of branch-wood gripped in a set of 1 1/2" jaws in my Patriot chuck. I hollowed them with a 1/2" spindle gouge on its edge; the tip pointing to about 10:00 o'clock and the cutting edge just below centre height.

I ended up making one every 7 minutes, once I'd got my hand in!

C&C always welcome...Les

Looks like they will go like the 'Clappers'.

I think that there should be a little more flair on the end, otherwise they are passable. Do they have an authentic sounding dong sound though? I have found this to be the most difficult part of creating these.

P.S.  Cool

I did some of these and tried using little bells inside and they sounded awful so now just make them for the looks.
