Spalted ( rotten !) Ash hollow vessel
« on: January 20, 2016, 06:59:36 PM »
A recently completed HF from very spalted /rotten Ash , the rest of the vessel is of sound smooth olive Ash and provides a dramatic contrast to the rotten / textured areas  ( approx 12" tall )  the stand is made from Oak that has been scorched as has the lid ..

I like the constant flow of the curve on this vessel, and I also like the way that the little black plinth echoes the black in the lid.

p.s. ... it might be worth adding a 'p' to the word 'salted' in the title of the thread!

Oh yes, this is very nice. I like the elegant curve of this piece. Not entirely sure about the lid, but together with the stand it works.

"P" inserted Les !!!  I have more than once seen work labelled SPLATED beech , in fact spell check does not like Spalted very much ....

I'm sure if the original piece of wood was laying in a firewood pile no-one would have blinked if it made it to the fire.

You've given it a new life and one of everlasting beauty even in it's ugliness.

And I like the finial, your signature 'Twig'.
