Green Oak Bowl
« on: February 18, 2016, 05:45:18 PM »
Turkey oak (Quercus cerris), turned on the endgrain, fairly green.  Was really quite hard work but worth the effort I think.  8" x 4"  C&C welcome.

Interesting colour pattern...most unusual. Coincidentally, a customer brought me a piece of turkey oak to work today.

I love the medullary rays in Evergreen oak, they are so pronounced and give the timber such an interesting look. This is really interesting as I've only ever seen them on the outside of spindle work or cross sections as in faceplate bowls, never as a spindle-wise bowl, the heartwood gives it that something more as well.

Thanks guys.  It's moving quite a bit at the moment, will be interesting to see how it ends up.  There is some really beautiful colour and pattern in the heartwood.
