Eucalyptus WIP
« on: March 22, 2016, 09:52:57 AM »
Work in progress....waiting for it to dry and finish moving before final sanding and finish.  This approx 48hours after turning.  Past experience shows it may be at its best and further movement may actually spoil the current graceful lines.  Couple of small radial cracks on the bottom but nothing that can't be filled with CA & coffee grounds.  Inspiration from Melvyn Firmager.

I like it Chris the movement almost looks like waves on the sea. Will like to see it when finished.

Eucalyptus does have a mind of it's own but glad it has not yet cracked too badly.

Looking at it differently, e.g. upside down, so the bowl faces downward, I am seeing an old hat with a wide wavy brim.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Thanks all.  I think it's pretty much stopped moving now, I don't expect any real cracks, the rim is very thin and the bowl is pretty thin with just a bit extra in the base (bottom quarter) to help resist too much warping of the bowl area.  Keeping the bowl as round as possible also helps with this. They only really crack on the outside bottom of the bowl and even then only a little which is easily stabilised with CA & filler.  It's been a fascinating journey playing with such warpy green wood, I've learned a lot and am really looking forward to trying out similar techniques on some of the piles stacked outside.....
