This shape looks like it has translated directly from pottery and sits very well as wood.
Your use of colour makes something special out of the Laylandii although I still think for such a strong use of colour it does need a much higher finish.
Can I suggest Danish Oil, lots of coats, with one applied every few days allowing the oil to polymerise and eventually set, thick and shiny. It will need a final buff to bring it out but as a finish on this sort of work it's worth the effort.
