I don't make many lidded pieces, so I'm not the best judge, but I wonder if it would help if you were to draw the profile of this piece on paper, then draw a 'fair' curve running from the line of the vessel, through its top corner to the tip of the finial, and then have cut the finial such that the various rings 'touched' that curve. Maybe, just maybe, that continuation of the curve would have been more harmonious.
